A rug can give a seating arrangement definition, introduce a softer material beneath architectural surfaces or create a quieter, more unified room. What matters is not simply the pattern: the scale, construction, pile and fibre all influence how it belongs in a space.
At Tresori, we invite you to explore these decisions through material references and a design-led conversation, whether you are furnishing a private home or planning a more extensive interior.
A tradition of making, since 1946.
Established in Espinho, Portugal, Ferreira de Sá works across four rug-making techniques: tufting, flatweave, hand-woven and hand-knotted. Each technique offers a different way to explore surface, detail and structure.
That breadth gives architects and homeowners room to consider both the visual intention and the practical requirements of a rug.
Four expressions of craft.
How a rug is made helps determine its texture, appearance and design possibilities.

Consider the fibres.
Selected examples from Ferreira de Sá’s material library. Exact suitability and combinations depend on the chosen specification.
01
New Zealand wool
A wool option within Ferreira de Sá’s material range; an important starting point for those exploring a natural-fibre surface.
02
Botanical silk
A smooth, softly reflective wood-pulp-derived fibre that creates a more fluid visual effect as light moves across its pile.
03
Bamboo
One of the maker’s available fibre options, offering further scope when considering finish and material combinations.
04
Performance-oriented options
Contract botanical silk, ECONYL® regenerated nylon and other specialised materials can be considered where the brief calls for different performance characteristics.
Choosing with purpose.
A few useful considerations before selecting a rug.
How large should a rug be?
Consider the furniture arrangement first. A rug can sit beneath the main seating group or define a dining setting; dimensions should be checked against circulation and door clearances. Bring a plan or approximate measurements to the discussion.
Does pile height make a difference?
Yes. Cut, loop, carved and long-pile constructions offer different textures and surface effects. The best choice depends on use, furniture arrangement and maintenance expectations.
Can I request a custom shape or colour?
Ferreira de Sá lists alternative shapes, sizes and colours on request for many designs. Final feasibility depends on the selected material, technique and specification.
Are rugs available for hospitality or commercial spaces?
The manufacturer has residential and contract experience. Technical requirements such as traffic, fire performance, care and installation must be confirmed for the specific rug and project.
Texture is not merely something you see. It changes how a room feels.
Construction, fibre, pile and colour are chosen in relation to the room—not in isolation.
