The design is deliberately simple enough to let the material carry much of the visual interest. Stone or marble provides the movement; the geometry keeps the piece from becoming ornamental.
Let Arthur sit where the base can be seen. In a larger living room, one piece can anchor the centre; where several sizes exist, a loose cluster is more interesting than lining them up too neatly. Keep the surrounding furniture quieter.
It carries a room without anything placed on it. A tray, a book or one object is enough; covering the surface would hide the material and the relationship between top and base that makes Arthur interesting.
Nothing near it needs pattern or ornament.
Arthur is a coffee table by Giulio Marelli. More sculptural than decorative, Arthur is strongest when the top is kept visually quiet.
